PETALING JAYA: Some participants in the government’s poverty eradication programme are making up to RM14,000 a month in sales revenue, revealed economy minister Rafizi Ramli.
The RM750 million programme, known as IPR, involves an agro entrepreneur initiative (Intan), service operator initiative (Ikhsan) and food entrepreneur initiative (Insan) which involves selling ready-made food through vending machines.
“The Insan programme has benefitted 100 participants, with some achieving average monthly sales of up to RM14,000,” said Rafizi in a written parliamentary reply to Hishammuddin Hussein (BN-Sembrong) about the programme’s effectiveness.
He said the ministry will identify strategic locations nationwide to deploy an additional 4,900 vending machines over the next 12 months.
Rafizi said that there were 130,304 applications to join the three programmes, with 48,687 of the applicants approved. He added that 1,901 hardcore poor households have been approved for IPR projects with an allocation of RM24.8 million thus far.
At an event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Rafizi said that participating B40 entrepreneurs could generate an average net income of RM3,000 to RM5,000 per month through Insan. - FMT
