IPOH: The immigration department has crippled a prostitution syndicate which conducted its activities through social media, charging between RM200 and RM1,000 for its services.
Immigration deputy director-general (operations) Jafri Embok Taha said 131 foreigners, and 10 Malaysians believed to be caretakers of the premises were detained in raids at five separate locations.
The outlets comprised two prostitution dens and three KTV entertainment centres here.
Jafri said the foreign suspects, aged between 18 and 36, comprised 52 women from China, 41 women from Vietnam, 21 women from Thailand, two women from Indonesia, a woman from Laos, eight men from Bangladesh, four Myanmar nationals, a Bangladeshi and a stateless man.
He said 57 of the women and one Myanmar national were found to have valid social visit passes, special passes, temporary employment passes, or employment passes, while the rest did not have any valid travel documents.
The immigration officers seized condoms, premises documents and keys, passports, RM14,155 in cash, 12 mobile phones, and closed- circuit television cameras. - FMT
