An anti-Israel group today urged government representatives and guests attending a US Independence Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur next week to don a Palestine symbol at the event.
Palestine Solidarity Secretariat (SSP) said such an act would be a show of solidarity to the Palestinians, which also serves as a reminder to Americans of Israel’s atrocity they have helped commit.
“To serve as a reminder to the United States of America and as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, we call on all guests attending the 248 Years of Independence celebration this June 10, 2024, at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur to don a symbol of Palestine with their attire.
“Be it a badge, kufeiyyah (traditional headdress), scarf, or anything symbolic of Palestine, let us be a physical reminder to America that we have not forgotten the sins they have helped commit.
“We also urge the representatives of the Malaysian government, especially ministers who will be attending the reception to wear a symbol of Palestine, to reflect the spirit of solidarity of the Malaysian people and Madani government with Palestine,” the group said in a statement.
While it congratulates the US for its 248th independence anniversary, SSP said the milestone should be commemorated with a reminder that Palestine and its people too aspire to be free and independent.
The group urged the US to immediately end its arms exports to Israel, and for the superpower to respect the rule of law including the order by the International Court of Justice for an immediate halt to Israel’s military campaign.
“These calls have fallen on deaf ears, as the United States continues to arm and abet Israel through the provision of funds and arms,” SSP said. - Mkini
