KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah president Maximus Ongkili has handed over the party leadership to his deputy, Joachim Gunsalam, as acting president.
The handover took place at a meeting of the PBS leadership today. In a statement, Ongkili said the transfer of duties was necessary for the good of the party.
Ongkili, who has led PBS for the past six years, had announced his departure in April. He said it is not easy for a leader to relinquish his position and duties to a successor. However, his health required more attention and focus for his recovery, he said.
He said many questions will undoubtedly arise, and many challenges will be faced by whoever holds or acts as leader of any party or organisation, especially a party that is so historic and meaningful to the beloved people of Sabah.
He hoped the party leadership would remain united to continue its struggle for Sabahans. - FMT
