PKR Youth: Has Tuan Ibrahim forgotten PAS' failure to abolish gambling?

Federal Territories PKR Youth has called out PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for saying an “Islamic victory” can correct policies which contributed to vices such as gambling.

The chapter’s information chief Muhammad Azha Salahudin referred to a report published by Harakahdaily yesterday titled “Sins forgiven because of the victory of Islam” which has now been deleted.

Azha said the report was “full of confusion and was superficial”.

“Tuan Ibrahim (above) said gambling premises existed because approval was given by powerful leaders who gained power through an election.

“Has Tuan Ibrahim forgotten that when PAS became the government for 33 months under Perikatan Nasional, PAS itself failed to eliminate gambling activities and gambling shops?” he questioned in a statement today.

In the Harakahdaily report, Tuan Ibrahim among others said the victory of Islam in an election will cause the sins of the previous group to be forgiven, as stated by Allah SWT in the Quran.

Citing the victory of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, Tuan Ibrahim said that Allah’s forgiveness was due to a change of administration that eliminated vices previously allowed by the past administration.

Further, Tuan Ibrahim claimed that everyone who placed the “past administration” in power had colluded with the immoral acts.

Special gambling draw raised

Azha, however, reminded PAS of the party’s own term as federal government, when the special gambling draw was increased from eight to 22 times a year.

“What is even more humiliating and disgusting, is that PAS’ failure to abolish gambling and instead raise the special gambling lottery was not a result of winning the election.

“It was a result of a ‘backdoor move’ to form an alliance and (stage) an evil conspiracy that brought down the government elected by the people,” he added.

Citing Tuan Ibrahim’s statement regarding the PAS government in Kelantan successfully stopping policies that contradicted Islam, Azha brought up the poverty rate in the state which he said was “worrying”.

He quoted data released by Kelantan’s Implementation Coordination Unit which recorded an increase in poor and extremely poor heads of households from 68,000 to 78,000 as of Jan 31.

“After years of PAS governing Kelantan, PAS failed to implement the infrastructure facilities and provide clean water to the people of Kelantan so the people of Kelantan began to feel burdened.

“My advice to PAS leaders is to stop using the name of Islam as cheap political capital to deceive the people. Prove the greatness of Islam through actions and not just through hallucinatory deception," he said. - Mkini
