PETALING JAYA: An assistant superintendent of police and two corporals were charged in the Langkawi magistrates’ court today with killing a man in January.
However, no plea was recorded after the charges were read out to Azhar Amir, 45, and the two corporals – Shahril Firdaus Solleh, 36, and Shaharri Shah Mat Saad, 36.
Berita Harian reported that the trio, stationed at the Langkawi police headquarters’ narcotics criminal investigation division, were jointly charged with killing Hafiz Salleh, 32.
They are alleged to have committed the offence at the division’s office between 6pm and 8pm on Jan 29.
They were charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the possibility of the death penalty upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Anuar Halim conducted the prosecution. The accused were not represented.
The court granted the prosecution’s request to deny bail for all accused and fixed Oct 20 for mention of the case. - FMT
