PAS lawmaker sees red after teaser of “rocket-shaped” monopole transmission tower along Penang Bridge

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari was trolled by detractors for insinuating that the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-ruled Penang state government was behind the rocket shape – the DAP party symbol – of the 8.5km monopole transmission tower which are erected parallel with the Penang bridge.

“Cable poles on Penang Bridge. Beautiful shape that looks like a rocket, right? 😀” he penned on his Facebook page.

But the intention of the Pasir Mas MP to belittle the Penang state government received backlash with netizens berating him for “having nothing better to politicise”.

They contended that if that is the maturity of Kelantan MPs, it is little wonder that that state is left little developed.

As pointed out by some netizens who owe their living to Penang, the state has continued to prosper – by developing quietly, without fuss and even without to the need to use “The Greater … slogan like a neighbouring state (referring to The Greater Kedah).”

Above all else, Penang has become a land of fortune for many folks from Kedah, Kelantan and Perlis – all of which are PAS-ruled states.

A commenter even poked fun at Fadhli who was the former PAS Youth chief by asking him to table “this very major issue in the Parliament so as to prevent investors from running away”.

One learned netizen justified that apart from its aesthetic quality, the said monopole transmission tower has a role to transmit power (from the Perai Power Station Main Inlet Substation [PMU] to the Light PMU in Penang).

“You can similarly request TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) to erect three of those towers in your parliamentary constituency if interested,” the netizen teased Fadhli.

In fact, TNB which is the national power utility outfit has reportedly invested RM500 mil in the 8.5km monopole power transmission tower project to strengthen the electricity supply in Penang.

Former TNB chief grid officer Datuk Ir Husaini Husin had in June 2022 hailed the project which is expected to be completed by end-2024 as an iconic landmark of Penang due to the unique transmission line tower with a betel nut design (as opposed to “rocket-shaped” as described by Fadhli). – Focus Malaysia
