PETALING JAYA: Negeri Sembilan police are investigating a man’s allegation that he was punched last Thursday by a prominent official, dubbed an “Orang Besar”, serving under the Undang of Rembau.
State police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Yussof said the 64-year-old victim lodged a complaint at 6.12pm on the day of the incident, Bernama reported.
“The victim received outpatient treatment at Rembau Hospital and the case has been classified under Section 323 of the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt).
“Seventeen witnesses have given their statements to assist in the investigation. The incident is believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding,” he said.
Dzaffir advised the public against commenting on the case pending the completion of the investigation.
According to Bernama, the incident occurred at a ceremony which was held as part of the process to appoint the next Undang of Rembau.
The post remains vacant following the death of the previous Undang of Rembau, Sharip Othman, on May 15.
Negeri Sembilan has four Undangs who serve as the chieftains of four customary administrative districts, namely Rembau, Sungai Ujung, Johol and Jelebu.
Their roles include selecting the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. - FMT
