Dengue cases rise with 5 deaths reported last week

PUTRAJAYA: The number of dengue fever cases rose to 2,805 between June 30 and July 6, compared with the 2,788 reported the previous week.

Health director-general Dr Radzi Abu Hassan said there were also five deaths due to complications.

A total of 78,068 cases have been reported this year as of last Saturday, significantly higher compared with the 61,545 cases recorded in the same period in 2023.

“A total of 65 deaths due to dengue fever complications have been reported (this year), compared with 42 deaths during the same period in 2023,” he said in a statement.

Radzi said 86 hotspots were reported in various localities last week, of which 67 were in Selangor, six in Negeri Sembilan, five in Kedah, three in Perak, two each in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and one in Sarawak.

Six chikungunya cases were also recorded last week, bringing the cumulative total to 47 cases this year. - FMT
