KUALA LUMPUR: Three members of a law enforcement unit have been arrested on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes in return for dropping a fraud case.
A source with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said the two men and one woman were arrested on Wednesday.
“The complainant had met with the enforcement officer to get them to release his wife, who was arrested on July 8 for suspected fraud,” said the source.
“Through a middleman, another enforcement personnel, the officer sought around RM20,000 in bribes,” said the court.
The complainant then transferred RM20,000 in two transactions to the enforcement personnel, which was believed to have been shared with the officer and another enforcement personnel.
The source said all three suspects were remanded today.
Kuala Lumpur MACC director Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrests when contacted. - FMT
