Shirtless durian sellers saying they took off shirts due to hot weather

A GROUP of men who went viral because of a “hot” video showing them shirtless while allegedly selling durian, are now saying they were never ‘naked’ and the video went viral because of captions that angered social media users.

While they say they work at the Papa Muda durian stall in full clothes, which is their business as usual attire, the video showing their muscles flexed and cleavers in hand stirred more than just social media buzz, they’ve also prompted an official response from the Health Ministry.

According to an interview with Astro Gempak, one of the durian sellers said it was far from a gimmick. They went shirtless because of the scorching weather.

“We took off our shirts because it was hot. We put our shirts back on when we were selling them,” said one of the sellers, never expecting the video to go viral to the extent that they received hate and some support on social media.

“It was out of our expectations. We have never supported negative content of any kind, and everything that happened was not intentional.”

He also said they are sorry for the video that went viral and will not repeat this again, adding that they have to accept the negative comments made by netizens after the video went viral.

Netizens were angry at the men whom they said did not cover their “aurat” or body parts that are not allowed to be shown according to Islamic principles.

There were several unkind comments directed at the seller. They claimed that these sellers who “show skin” are desperate and simply want to show off their physique.

X users added that these sellers have to follow religious guidelines when it comes to conducting their business.

According to a report by The Star on Friday (July 12), the Health Ministry said that they are taking the matter seriously due to hygiene and cleanliness concerns.

“The approach of flexing muscles to sell food is not something we condone,” Health Deputy Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni said during a press conference on the same day.

He explained that while it helped boost durian sales, the act set a poor standard for the industry. – Focus Malaysia
