PETALING JAYA: Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim has successfully caused politicians in the state to put politics aside to focus on the state’s development, says menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz said it was Sultan Ibrahim’s reminder for political leaders in Johor to prioritise the people’s welfare and well-being instead of politicking that managed to bring this about, Bernama reported.
He said Sultan Ibrahim, who is currently serving as Yang di-Pertuan Agong, had urged them to ensure political stability and harmony among Johor’s diverse communities as these two factors were key to drawing foreign investors.
Sultan Ibrahim “constantly reminds state assemblymen to deliver the best service and to campaign only during elections. He also reminded MPs to solve issues in their respective constituencies (during their time in office),” Onn Hafiz said.
The menteri besar said Johor has become an economic powerhouse under Sultan Ibrahim’s rule, thanks to the influx of foreign investments in the past few years as a result of stability in politics and in the royal institution, adding that the latter ensured “overall stability” in the state.
