YOURSAY | Take action on those behind HRD Corp fiasco now

YOURSAY | ’Stop deferring it by having another audit.’

HRD Corp probe: I won’t protect anyone, minister says

PKR MP calls for HRD Corp CEO’s suspension pending probe

Ranjit Singh Malhi: Human Resources Minister Steven Sim must take the bull by its horns.

Suspend Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) chief executive Shahul Hamid Shaik Dawood due to alleged gross mismanagement and possible abuse of power as disclosed by the Auditor-General’s (AG’s) Department and the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

Shahul must assume full responsibility and accountability, as all major decisions must get his approval. He cannot, and should not, shift the blame to other personnel of HRD Corp.

Shahul Hamid Shaik Dawood

The buck stops with him. Period. If I were him, I would on my accord take garden leave to facilitate impartial investigations because I have nothing to fear if I am innocent of any wrongdoing.

Finally, it is rather odd for Sim to ask Shahrul to accompany the chief secretary of the Human Resources Ministry to lodge a report with the MACC when he is implicated in the alleged mismanagement and financial irregularities.

I trust the minister, who is generally viewed as a credible politician, will do what is right to uphold integrity, good governance, and accountability.

Integrity is the linchpin of leadership. In this regard, Sim’s integrity is being tested in how he handles the HRD Corp controversy.

Rest assured, employers, training providers and the rakyat at large are closely monitoring developments related to HRD Corp. May justice and common sense prevail!

Mazhilamani: I do agree with Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim to suspend the HRD Corp chief executive, pending investigation, but this abuse of power problem may have begun long before his appointment.

Hassan Abdul Karim

This is something that needs to be noted.

Our country is experiencing corruption from multiple directions including academics. We have certainly reached a worrying state.

We thought corruption was only prevalent among politicians, but it has now become a pandemic.

GanMu: Sim says his ministry will appoint a professional third-party auditor to ensure transparency in the independent audit of HRD Corp. Why another audit?

The PAC and AG have made their findings. Act on them immediately. Stop deferring it by having another audit.

As deputy speaker Ramli Md Nor says, when there is a delay, the evidence disappears. Sim is just not doing his job.

He should suspend Shahul first without talking big about not hesitating to take action.

FellowMalaysian: No report to the authorities has been made against this CEO.

Technically, he can just scamper to Timbuktu tomorrow and nabbing him will prove to be as difficult as ferreting out Low Taek Jho (aka Jho Low) or former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law.

Is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim serious about going after these “corruptors” as he was once fond of calling them?

Talk only but no action will lead down the road to Sungai Bakap eventually.

Cogito Ergo Sum: That CEO should follow precedence. Go on garden leave like some of his more illustrious forebears in government-linked companies.

In light of such blatant facts and accusations, Shahul should have resigned on his own instead of waiting to be suspended.

We have shameless corporate as well as political leaders. We are even merciful to convicted kleptocrats. This is now an acceptable cultural practice.

Mohican: Well said my friend Hassan, always without fear or favour. Enough is enough.

No more millions here and millions there. There are now billions. If they are crooks, they must pay for it.

This has not happened in the last few months. It’s been happening for a long time. Our new human resources minister should not be blamed for it.

He is known to have integrity, and I believe he will not sweep it under the carpet.

Coward: Please have a better understanding of corporate management before calling the minister to suspend the CEO. The minister does not have the power to act alone.

Take, for example, the then-CEO of 1MDB, Arul Kanda Kandasamy. Despite being publicly labelled “dishonest and untrustworthy” by the then-finance minister Lim Guan Eng, Lim could not just remove him on the spot.

By all means, call for Shahul’s suspension. Just don’t target anyone who does not have the power to do so.

Turnedback: The rakyat are not interested in who is appointed to audit the irregularities of the HRD Corp account.

We are more concerned about expediting the MACC investigation with other enforcement authorities to lock up those who stole money, confiscate passports, and freeze bank accounts.

BrownLion2645: Every year, the AG reports on mismanagement and wrongdoings of government agencies involving millions and billions of ringgit.

Who is in charge of follow-up and taking action?

There must be transparency in disclosing the various actions taken against the offenders and the amounts recovered. Otherwise, everything will be swept under the carpet and forgotten.

Southpaw: Sim, why is there a need to appoint an independent auditor when both the Auditor-General and PAC have already audited and investigated HRD Corp?

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim

Are you implying that you have no confidence in the AG and PAC? Why are you still keeping the CEO of HRD Corp around?

He should be suspended until he’s been cleared. It looks like you are protecting him.

Variant: Disband HRD Corp immediately and return the funds to the SMEs. - Mkini
