BN 75% ready for polls - Zahid

BN 75% ready for polls - Zahid
PUTRAJAYA - Barisan Nasional is more than 75% ready to face the next general election, based on the preparedness of the BN machinery and infrastructure, an Umno leader said today.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party assesses its readiness based on several criteria.
"(We assess) from the readiness of the BN election machinery at branch and state levels, as well as the infrastructure of the party, that is, pamphlets, manifesto, and others.
"When Parliament is dissolved, I am confident our preparedness will be at 100%. As for Umno itself, we are more than 70% ready," he said after the closing ceremony of the 1Malaysia Bikers Week (1MBW).
Ahmad Zahid was responding to questions on the criteria which BN bases its battle-readiness, in light of a recent report which stated that BN is almost 100% ready to face what is touted as the closest election yet, especially in Selangor and the Malay-majority areas.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the executive director of the Superbikes Association of Malaysia (SAM), asked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to consider a reduction in import taxes and excise duties on imported superbikes.
"We also hope that local manufacturers are given permits to assemble some superbikes, as all of the 18,000 superbikes registered with the Road Transport Department are imported," he said, adding this will encourage growth of motorsports in the country.
Najib, in closing the 1MBW, said "when the time is right, the government will give the proposal serious consideration".
The 1MBW, which began on Nov 6, saw nearly 450 superbike riders participating in a convoy around Peninsular Malaysia, travelling over 1,800km over five days.
