Nazri Jr in the limelight again, this time over alleged money-launderer Michael Chia

Nazri Jr in the limelight again, this time over alleged money-launderer Michael Chia
PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli has made public documents proving the links between Michael Chia, the controversial figure caught with RM40 million cash, and Nedim Nazri, the minister's son who recently stole limelight over his involvement in an assault on a security guard.
Nedim's father, minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Aziz, had earlier told reporters “to ask his son” on allegations exiled blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin that Chia had lent his Hummer priced some half-a-million ringgit to Nedim.
Rafizi today published photo evidences showing the black Hummer bearing the plate number WNX9776 being driven by the thirty-something Nedim’s family bodyguard to and fro his luxury residence in Clearwater Residence, Damansara Heights and Bangsar Shopping Complex where he has a shop.
A snapshot from an online summonse checking result on e-goverment service portal MyEG shows the luxury truck-SUV belongs to Chia Tien Foh, Michael Chia's full name.
Rafizi then uploaded pictures and online communication made through social media sites to prove that Nedim owns a unit in Clearwater Residence.
Rafizi said there was sufficient evidence to prove that Nedim had obtained financial benefits from Chia.
“The relentless defence by Nazri, as the minister responsible for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, of Chia who was investigated by MACC, raises the issue of conflict of interest,” said Rafizi.
Rafizi said Nazri's remarks in parliament dismissing the allegations against Chia had raised suspicions.
Nazri earlier told parliament that MACC had categorised the RM40 million cash intercepted by Hong Kong police as 'donation' for Sabah UMNO, prompting the island's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to close the case.
Nazri later admitted that Chia was a friend, a relationship he did not disclose earlier, arguing it not asked in parliament.
Rafizi said PKR would wait for Nazri's reaction following the latest revelation before taking follow-up actions.
"He [Nazri] should realise that the public will not accept his blanket denial of knowing his son's private affairs," he added.
Nedim was recently cleared by the police of an assault case involving him, his bodyguard and a security guard at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur. Rights lawyer and PKR vice president N Surendran said the police's argument that the case had been "amicably settled" was unprecedented for a criminal case.
"Was the investigation compromised simply because the case involves the son of a senior UMNO minister? Further, what are the terms of this illegal settlement and did the settlement involve the police, Nazri Aziz or Hishamuddin?" he asked.
Last year, Nedim, driving his Porsche, allegedly refused to alight from his car to register at the condominium's guard house. The guard was later punched by Nedim's bodyguard for insisting that Nedim register like everyone else.
