KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — The issuance of strata titles, especially to owners of low cost apartments, will continue to be enhanced to ensure the low income earners get their rights.
Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin (picture) said the effort and approach taken by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is to enable the people from all walks of life to benefit from the government’s transformation programme.
“With the title, it will be easier for the owners to make any dealings, like to change ownership, lease, mortgage or refinance to commercial banks,” he told reporters after presenting the strata titles to 507 owners of the Taman Bukit Angkasa Low Cost Apartment, Kerinchi here today. Apart from that, he said, the owners would also be eligible to be nominated to sit in the Management Corporation Committee.
Raja Nong Chik said Taman Bukit Angkasa is the first low cost residence in the city to be issued with strata titles, adding such a move would also be carried out in other areas.
He said Taman Bukit Angkasa had 1,930 apartment units and that so far, applications for the strata titles were received from only 1,000 units. From the 1,000 applications, received, 507 had been approved, he added.
He said the remaining were still in the process and cited several reasons for the delay in approving the applications. The reasons, among others, were because the applicants had yet to settle some matters, like maintenance fee, he added.
Meanwhile, one of the owners who received the strata title today, taxi driver Zainol Wahid, 63, said he had waited for more than 20 years to be issued the title.
He thanked Raja Nong Chik for helping the owners to get the title and that it proved the commitment by the BN government in looking after the people’s interests. — Bernama
