LABUAN-- Sabah police have classified five major towns in the state as crime-prone, contributing 75 per cent of the total crime index.
Sabah police commissioner, Datuk Hamza Taib said police were monitoring the situation before it reached an alarming stage.
"We have identified five areas within our authority in Sabah to be monitored strictly," he said at a press conference after declaring open the newly-completed Kg Bebuloh police station, here, today.
The crime-prone areas are Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu and Penampang.
Hamza said Sabah police would continue to monitor the activities of five listed secret societies in the state.
He said the police had gathered information related to the groups' activities and background.
"We know their leaders and members," he added.
