Angry devotees take down DBKL hoardings
Devotees of the Golden Triangle Muneswarar Kalyamman temple in Kuala Lumpur have taken down Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) hoardings at the temple annex today after conducting a special prayer session.
The temple's legal adviser M Manogaran told Malaysiakini that the incident happened when the temple's prayers were about to end.
"The crowd turned emotional and took down the hoardings and put it aside," he said.
Manogaran (left) said that there were about 200 devotees, but nothing unruly happened after the hoarding was taken down.
"They were rather angry with the temple itself. They said the temple should not have let this (DBKL's actions last week) happen," he said.
However, no DBKL or police officers were at the scene this evening.
Earlier, Manogaran rebutted DBKL and the Federal Territories Ministry's claims that the temple annex used to be a canteen.
"There was never a canteen. There were food stalls that stopped operating in 2009," he said.
"The utensils remained so that the temple could cook food for the temple's charity events," he added.
