Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) claimed that 16 cases of burst pipes recorded this year were caused by the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)/Light Rail Transit (LRT) project works.
In a statement, Syabas said eight such cases were recorded last year, also due to works carried out on the same project.
It said the increase in the number of burst pipe cases was worrying for Syabas as it created a lot of problems for the water supply concessionaire, the consumers due to water supply disruption and the road users due to traffic congestion as a result of the repair works going on.
“Repair works had to be carried out and would take some time while other factors could delay the repair works,” it added.
Syabas therefore reminded all parties involved in soil digging or construction works to carry out thorough inspection of the development sites involved and to identify the locations of the underground utilities, including water pipes and power cables, to avoid any inconvenience.
