TI-M chief defends PCA amendments
Transparency-International Malaysia (TI-M) president and criminologist Akhbar Satar has defended that the amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA) 1959, saying that they were not similar to the Internal Security Act (ISA) as alleged by some quarters.
He was quoted by Malay daily Berita Harian as criticising those who have likened the crime law to the ISA.
“PCA is not the same as ISA because its scope of law is different,” he was quoted as saying.
Akhbar also reportedly said that the law was meant to fight crime syndicates, and that the Home Ministry should be allowed to continue in its quest to fight crime syndicates without any compromise.
He said that the ministry’s commitment in fighting crime needs a strong and strict law, and that the amendments did not abandon the human rights aspect.
