Water rationing will be implemented in several areas in Jempol and Gemas starting tomorrow as the Sungai Gemas has dried up.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said 3,000 consumers would be affected in Felda Palong, Felda Bukit Jalor, Felda Bukit Rokan, part of Gemas town and the Syed Sirajuddin army camp.
“The rationing will be on alternate days. For areas in Jempol, we will take water from the plant in Jempol, and the Gemas area, from the Sawah Raja Plant in Rembau.
“Tanker lorries will be used to send water to the affected areas. Due to the distances involved, we want to use as many tankers as possible,” he told reporters in Seremban today.
He said although the drought operation’s room had been mobilised and all departments and agencies asked to cooperate, it was inadequate.
“As such, I have also asked the committee to tackle drought, chaired by the state secretary, to discuss with the Negri Sembilan Tanker Lorry Association on hiring their lorries.
“I feel this will be a more effective way to supply water to the affected areas. We will also deploy volunteers, especially soldiers who will together monitor the situation in the affected areas,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mohamad said water rationing in several areas in Tampin, Gemencheh and part of Gemas and Rembau, involving 30,000 consumers, would also be done from March 25, if there is no rain around the Gemencheh Dam area.
“However, we hope it will rain in the dam area soon or otherwise rationing will start from March 25. The Gemencheh Dam is unique as it is fed by two rivers. One has dried up while the other has only 10 percent water left,” he added.
