Up to 66 foreign nationals are missing after a wooden boat they were on sank two miles from Sungai Air Hitam, off Banting, just after midnight.
Banting fire and rescue personnel, which arrived at the scene half and hour after a distress call was received at 12.24am, succeeded in rescuing 31of the 97 passengers on board.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing to find the remaining passenger, with the fire and rescue department monitoring the coast.
A Reuters report stated that the passengers are believed to be Indonesians, quoting government maritime agency.
