Jeffrey: Sarawak CM shames Sabah leaders

Chief Minister Adenan Satem's strong defence of the rights of Sarawak and her people has put Sabah BN leaders in a bind for their failure to protect Sabah's rights and interests, said State Reform Party (Sabah Star) chief Jeffrey Kitingan.

"Very soon the Sabah government and BN leaders will have no place to hide their faces and may have to migrate to Kuala Lumpur if they do not pull up their socks and start looking after Sabah's rights and interests" he said.

Jeffrey was responding to Adenan's (right) statement marking his 100 days as Sarawak chief minister.

Before stepping down, Adenan's predecessor Abdul Taib Mahmud had set the benchmark by advising that his successor should ensure Umno and its brand of racially divisive politics are kept out of Sarawak and to vigorously protect the state's rights as spelled out in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Jeffrey said: "Adenan's statements on the autonomy of Sarawak and Sarawak not being equal to the states in the Peninsula, the rights to control immigration pursuant to the special rights of Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement and the safeguarding of racial and religious harmony in Sarawak from the racial and religious bigots and extremists from the Peninsula clearly have put Sabah BN leaders in a bind.”

"True to form, Adenan had not only adopted the same patriotism but clearly set out his vision unequivocally and in no uncertain terms. Not too bad for 100 days,” he added.

At the same time, Jeffrey said it put Sabah leaders who have been helming the state for more than 10 years to shame.

Apart from that, he said it also puts Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the federal government in a tight spot.

"One wonders what the federal and Sabah governments will come up with to fool Sabahans this coming Aug 31 celebrations.

"Will it be the 57th anniversary of Malaysia's independence? Will it be the 57th anniversary of the Federation of Malaya's independence? Will it be the 51st anniversary of Sabah's independence?

"And what about the Sept 16 celebrations?" asked Jeffrey further.

Big questions remain unanswered

He said that the current hot topic for coffee-shop talk is the failure of Sabah leaders and of them being traitors to the state.

"Some of these leaders, led by Chief Minister Musa Aman, are now back-tracking on their stand on the proposed hike on oil royalties. However, big, big questions remain unanswered,” he said.

These questions are:

1) Will Sabah leaders start awakening and take steps and act as Sabah's leaders looking and protecting Sabah's rights, interest and welfare?

2) Will Sabah's rights under the Malaysia Agreement be protected and enforced?

3) Will Sabah seek the return of Sabah's oil and gas ownership rights?

4) Will Sabah be solving the perennial illegal immigrants and dubious IC holders with voting rights?

5) Will Sabah's racial and religious harmony be protected?

6) Will Sabah immigration rights be enforced to keep out racial and religious bigots from Malaya?

7) Will Sabahans be allowed to use the term ‘Allah’ as they have been doing for centuries before Malaysia?

"Or will Sabah BN leaders be queuing and applying to migrate to Malaya?" he asked.
