A PAS leader has defended the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) raid on a Hindu wedding ceremony at a temple in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, after discovering that the bride is a Muslim.
Party central committee member Ridhuan Mohd Nor (left) noted that the raid drew a slew of responses, with some condemning Jais for not respecting the rights of those who profess other faiths.
"For Muslims, Jais' action was warranted because it helped save a Muslim from crossing over the lines of Islam," he said in a statement.
Yesterday, Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) urgedparliamentarians to amend the laws to stop "overzealous" Jais officials from overstepping their boundaries.
Jais sources were reported as saying that it used a 1988 law, to prevent Muslims converting out of the faith, to justify its actions for taking the bride away.
