One of the most commonly used terms on Twitter since this morning was ‘Dr M’.
This came on the heels of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's scathing blog post on the current Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
News reports on Mahathir's post were shared in large volumes by netizens, with many critics of the government poking fun at the Najib administration.
"Najib dan rakan rakan nya akan lari ka London tak lama lagi. Hidup Dr M (Looks like Najib his colleagues will be running to London soon. Long live Dr M!)," tweeted former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim.
This morning, Mahathir warned that Umno and BN would be defeated in the next general election as a result of mounting allegations against Najib that have gone unanswered.
Among others, Mahathir cited the 1Malaysia Development Bhd debacle and the mystery surrounding the motive of Altantuya Shariibuu's murder.
For Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Mahathir's blog post was nothing impressive.
"Latecomer whudunnit," Nurul Izzah remarked.
Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching said Mahathir's criticisms could trigger the police to pounce.
"IGP, cepat tangkap Tun M! Dia seditious! (The inspector-general of police, please apprehend Mahathir. He is being seditious)," tweeted Teo.
Some detractors as well
Singapore-based AFP journalist Bhavan Jaipragas tweeted that Mahathir's blog post was "explosive".
Echoing this, another Twitter user by the name of @wordmanifest remarked that Mahathir does a better than job in attacking Najib than the opposition.
"Damn. Dr M is doing a better job attacking 1MDB on his own than the entire Pakatan Rakyat in the past three weeks," @wordmanifest said in the tweet.
Although the Altantuya saga is nearly a decade old, Twitter user @uncleawang decided to add a current twist to the issue.
"G go S sirul T talk... jangan diam (don't hold your tongue)," tweeted @uncleawang.
But not all Twitter users were supportive of Mahathir's allegations. Many wondered why he took so long to raise the issue.
"It took dr m so many yrs 2 finally ask who ordered the hit & he insists he's not nyanyuk? #greatScott," wrote Twitter user @greeneyesjelly.
"Dr M baru sedar? dulu tak sedar? selective memory (Dr M realised this only now? Not before?)," wrote @adrianoh. - M'kini
