Abusive clamped-car pair held in remand

Two men detained in custody for three days after abusing city council enforcement staff

GEORGE TOWN: Police are holding in custody two men shown on a video recording to be abusing a Penang Island City Council enforcement officer who had clamped their car in Campbell Street on Wednesday.

District police chief Mior Faridalatarash Wahid said the two men, aged 19 and 25, were being held in remand for three days for investigations for obstructing a public servant.

The men were incensed after finding that the tyre of their car which was partly parked on the yellow line at Campbell Street here had been chained up.

A video of the incident believed to have been recorded by another personnel and circulated since Thursday in the social media has gone viral.

Mior Faridalatarash said three Penang city council personnel had been called up to give their statement.
