The Supreme Council member says Dr M's press conference was unnecessary.
PETALING JAYA: An Umno Supreme Council member today lamented that the party had been “weakened” by remarks made at a press conference yesterday by former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and several other party veterans.
Bung Mokhtar Radin told FMT he felt the press conference was “very unnecessary.”
“They have weakened the party and given the opposition parties an opportunity to attack it,” he said.
Asked whether he thought they should face disciplinary action, Bung said it was up to the party’s disciplinary board to make a decision.
Yesterday, Mahathir addressed a press conference in the presence of sacked ministers Muhyiddin Yassin and Shafie Apdal, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, former cabinet minister Sanusi Junid and former MCA president Ong Tee Keat. The subject was alleged abuse of power by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
They accused Najib’s administration of abusing the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act to restrict freedom and to protect the Prime Minister against criticism.
Muhyiddin, Tengku Razaleigh and Sanusi also spoke to reporters.
