The increase is only in the urban area and not all highways, says minister.
PUTRAJAYA: Traders should not use the toll rate hike as an excuse to increase the prices of goods as it only involves certain highways in the Klang Valley, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Hamzah Zainuddin.
He said the toll hikes were to enable the government to provide more assistance and facilities for the people in the future.
“The hikes do not involve all highways, but only those in the urban area,” he told reporters after the pre-launch of the 2015 National Consumers Day and Love Made in Malaysia Campaign here today.
“How many lorries use these highways? So, why do they (traders) want to raise prices?” he asked.
Several main highway concessionaires in the Klang Valley had announced hikes in toll rates of between 10 sen and RM6 effective Thursday.
