Eight-year-old girl dies after AIRBAG impact in Kedah car mishap

An eight-year-old girl died Wednesday after an airbag in the front passenger seat deployed following a collision with a speed bump near to her house at Bandar Utama in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Nur Khyra Amira Azman and her two older brothers, aged 17 and 12, were on their way home from a shopping trip at Bandar Puteri Jaya.

The older boy, who was driving, said Nur Khyra was seated beside him and was resting her face on the dashboard where the airbag was stored.

When the car suddenly hit a speed bump, he made an emergency brake, which triggered the airbags in the dashboard to inflate and hit the victim.

"When the car stopped, I was shocked that Khyra was not in her seat.

I thought she was thrown out of car but found her trapped behind under the back seat," he said.

Two passersby helped bring the victim home before she was rushed to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim.

The victim was unconscious and bleeding from the nose while being brought to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Md Zukir Md Isa said police were investigating to find out the cause of her death.
