Kit Siang: 1MDB, BN playing ‘tai chi’ over Rulers statement

The time has come for the Prime Minister to present a White Paper on the 1MDB scandal when Parliament meets on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang has warned 1MDB in a statement that it was showing utter disrespect for the Rulers, in the wake of an unprecedented statement by the pre-Council meeting of the Conference of Rulers, by claiming that the Attorney-General and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) had both cleared it and that it was no longer under investigation.

“1MDB is competing with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and other Barisan Nasional (BN) Ministers in political tai chi on the Rulers’ statement,” added Lim who is also DAP Parliamentary Leader and Gelang Patah MP. “MACC has since denied that it has ever cleared 1MDB.”

The time has come for the Prime Minister to present a White Paper on the 1MDB scandal when Parliament meets on Monday, said Lim. “The people are entitled to know whether the Rulers had been misinformed and misguided on the 1MDB investigations when the case was not even being investigated.”

Lim pointed out that the Rulers called on the government on October 6 to complete the 1MDB investigations as soon as possible and to take “the appropriate stern action” against all found to be implicated. “The 1MDB CEO has shown utter disrespect and even contempt for the Rulers when he came out with a statement on Wednesday claiming that the Attorney-General’s explanation on why the firm was not charged emphasised the fact that it was no longer being investigated.”

1MDB would not have issued such an outrageous statement and claim if the 1MDB chief Arul Kanda Kandasamy had not been assured of full endorsement by Prime Minister as the Chairman of the 1MDB Advisory Board, charged Lim. “The people are utterly tired and fed up by these wiles and shadow plays by the powers-that-be while the country continues to bleed from a regime that refuses to accept the basic principles of accountability, transparency and good governance.”
