In a statement posted on his website, Chang said those he challenged to join him to prove that they were willing to die for their causes, namely the prime minister, failed to do so.
On September 25, Chang challenged Datuk Seri Najib Razak and several other Cabinet ministers to go on hunger strikes to show their followers that they were willing to die for Malay dignity and to set a shining example.
Chang and former Umno leader Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan are facing a charge of attempted economic sabotage under the Penal Code. The charge is a security offence under Sosma and their detention is also under the same act.
Khairuddin, accompanied by Chang, had lodged reports with enforcement agencies overseas against state-owned investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad's (1MDB) alleged financial wrongdoings.
In his statement, Chang said the fact that he did not suffer any serious injury to his health was evidence that Allah had protected him.
"In the circumstances, I have demonstrated the justice of my course, justice, truth and honour and Najib having failed to do so, I shall not be required to continue with my hunger strike.
"I shall therefore be declared to have been blessed and protected by Allah," he said in the posting.
Chang added that he will now channel his energy to fighting alongside Khairuddin to expose the power abuse by the Najib regime.
"Both Datuk Paduka Khairuddin bin Abu Hassan and I, by our efforts have shown the cowardice, hypocrisies and abuse of power by the Najib regime," he said.
