KUALA LUMPUR - Naturally, news of the upcoming increase in toll rates for major highways within the Klang Valley did not sit well with the general public.
In venting their frustrations online, Malaysians were seen lashing out at the highway concessionaires’ decision to increase toll rates.
Seemingly outraged by the news, Facebook user Ashley Greig flayed the government, blaming it for increasing the prices:
“Take our money some more. We’re all earning big bucks kan? Our cost of living is super low kan? We all love our country so much that we’re willing to starve just so the ministers can live a good life kan? Increase la. Increase away.”
A certain Azhar Alatas questioned the hike in toll prices and enquired whether the implementation of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) collected by the government was being put to good use:
“In bole-land, there is GST and the toll can’t stop increasing. Funny … and after 6 months of GST, where is the money spent?.”
“Again making the people spend more and more,” commented Terence Goh.
While Renu Thiaga seemed equally disappointed at the news, stating that life would be harder when the price hike is implemented: “Everything hike, don’t know how to survive.”
On Twitter, the netizens echoed similar resentment as the issue made rounds on cybercpace.
“It’s crazy, paying a RM3 toll just to be stuck in the traffic. You know, Instead of a 45-minute jam, lets enjoy this 30-minute jam in a tunnel,” said @jimiecheng lamenting on the toll hike on the SMART tunnel.
The toll rates on major highways in and around the capital city is due to increase between 20 sen and RM3 from Oct 15. - Therakyatpost
