In a symbolic move clearly meant to take a poke at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the RM2.6 billion "donation" from a Middle Eastern benefactor, PKR treasurer Tan Yee Kew said the money would be crucial in helping PKR make inroads in rural areas.
"We hope that this campaign will help us win more rural seats," she said at the launch of the "26 for Change" campaign.
The campaign will run for six months, the party said, and donations can be made through bank accounts as well as online transactions.
PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said that PKR will be a determining factor if BN were to be removed from power in the next elections.
"It is possible to defeat BN as 30 of the seats they won were marginal wins," he said.
"Of the 30 seats, 22 were contested by PKR, so we will become a determining factor," he added.
He also said that most of these seats were either semi-urban or urban, which means these seats were "winnable" for PKR.
"But for this to happen, we need to train at least 600 polling agents in each constituency," he said.
"We need to start training these volunteers at least one or two years before the election, so we need to get our machinery going," he added.
