Will Najib walk into trap set by Mahathir?

YOURSAY | ‘Najib might use the next few days to try and frighten Ling.’
Serembanpau: It looks like PM Najib Razak has taken the bait set by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahathir has already called him a thief openly but the ‘Bugis warrior’ kept quiet. So ex-MCA chief Ling Liong Sik made the same accusation. He hopes that the PM will sue so that both can have their day in court.
The PM should go all the way so that we can see him defend himself in court.
Res Ipsa: Just forget about the ‘weak Ling’. Just sue The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) to show that you are a man of substance.
Najib’s lawyer Hafarizam Harun, if you are apprehensive of the Speech Act (Securing the Protection of our Enduring and Established Constitutional Heritage Act) defeating your clients claims, just engage a counsel in the United States to file the suit over there.
By the way, it makes one wonder whether any legal firm in the US would take up this brief which is literally a non-starter.
Anonymous_1425871172: Ling has said that he will not apologise and to see you in court. What's the need to wait for seven days?
This is a delay tactic again because you are trapped in this cat-and-mouse game with Mahathir.
The Mask: What, still hoping for Ling to change his mind? He has challenged Najib to sue, so why wait? Or is it going to be like the case involving the so-called lawsuit against WSJ?
The way I see it, Najib is disgracing the position of a PM. He is acting like a spoilt brat - the result of being born with a silver spoon.
You really need to be a commoner to understand the suffering of the common people.
Unafraid: This is called buying time or dragging your feet because you are not serious about what you say you will do.
So far, none of the people who have said the same thing has been sued yet in spite of all the fire and brimstone rhetoric.
Visu: Yes, Najib is buying time, but for what? It appears that there is no real will to sue.
He must file a suit against Ling in seven days as stated in his letter of demand, failing which Ling's accusation would considered as true and the police must investigate Najib.
Pemerhati: Najib might use the few days before the seven-day period expires to try and frighten Ling with one of his ‘skeletons’ in the closet.
If Ling does get frightened then Najib will get Ling to act in the way he wants.
Anonymous 2316291440752008: Ling is more indebted to the former premier than Najib. Ling had an axe to grind with Najib after he was charged in connection with the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case.
Mahathir has repeatedly demanded Najib's resignation. Ling's position is being seen as in support of former PM, who has made similar calls. Just sue.
Anonymous_1393587569: Indeed, Ling is just returning the favour Mahathir once gave during the PKFZ when Mahathir conveniently forgot everything when he was asked to testify in court.
Dr Mahani Zainal Abidin: A clash of the titans. But this time, I support Najib over Ling. He can lead this nation better than Ling led his MCA...
Quigonbond: One wonders why Najib does not want to sue Dr M. Is it because he thinks there will be Malay backlash against him if he did that, and that it is purely a political calculus?
Or perhaps there is also concern that Dr M has many more proof to show that he has made a "fair comment" or that the court may not be well under his control in the first place?
If it is the latter two factors, then chances of him suing Ling will be near zero because Dr M can easily pass on those damning extra saucy evidence and proof to Ling, and Ling becomes the symbol of proxy fight between Dr M and Najib.
In another words, Najib is walking into a trap. What a good show.
CQ Muar: Ling, inform Najib to proceed by all means, and that the whole nation is waiting for the moment the prime minister to take his position at the dock in court.
Najib had been issuing threats and suing, but not once do we get to see him stand up in the court of law to make his defence. That's the type of our "courageous" PM we have - all sound and fury.
Najib can only boast when he is overseas addressing the ignorant audience, but back home he knows we can smell a rat.
Best of luck, Ling, do give this superfluous PM a good lesson in life. Najib is the PM of Umno, his cohorts, ministers and those leeches like MCA, Gerakan and others, but not the rakyat.
Lamps: Najib has billions in his personal accounts and he wants others to apologise to him? Najib should put billions in my account and then apologise to me. --Mkini
