PARLIAMENT The latest bumiputera equity ownership statistics from 2014 are still being calculated, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar.
"Information on the management control, including equity ownership (of bumiputera) are still being calculated and the data analysed," he said.
Wahid said this in a written parliamentary reply to Ahmad Hamzah (BN-Jasin) who wanted to know the latest bumiputera equity figures.
The last statistics, from 2011, had bumiputera equity ownership at 23.5 percent compard to 33.2 percent owned by the Chinese and 37.2 percent owned by foreigners.
The government aims to have bumiputera equity ownership at 30 percent by 2020.
When unveiling the 11th Malaysia Plan in May, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had laid out several measures to achieve this goal.
This includes, among others, divesting non-core government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies assets and activities to bumiputera entrepreneurs. -Mkini
