Lawyer: Too late to get back Kevin Morais' remains

There is no way of getting the remains of Anthony Kevin Morais back for a second post-mortem once the body has been taken out of the mortuary, says a lawyer.
Americk Sidhu, the lawyer acting for Charles Suresh Morais, one of Kevins' siblings, also said this cannot be done after another sibling claimed the former deputy public prosecutor's body yesterday.
"If you take the body out of the mortuary, it's going to decompose," said Americk.
As such, the body must be cremated as soon as possible, he said.
Americk said he did not know the whereabouts of Kevin's body now but said it was very likely that it had already been cremated.
Kevin, who was brutally murdered with his body stuffed into a cement-filled drum, appears now to be the subject of a family feud as Charles had wanted a second post-mortem but another sibling, Richard Morais, went ahead to claim the body.
Asked if Charles had instructed any legal action to retrieve the body, Americk said: "What's the point? By the time you get the injunction they would have burnt the body.”
However, Americk said he is drafting a statement on the next course of action and will release it to the media on Thursday.
Sentul district police chief R Munusamy confirmed the body was claimed at 11.30am yesterday from Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary, according to The Star.
The late DPP, who had handled many high-profile cases, was reported missing on Sept 4 and was last seen leaving for Putrajaya from his apartment at Menara Duta in Kuala Lumpur, in a Proton Perdana.
Police ruled it as an abduction, based on a CCTV footage they obtained of Kevin being forced out of his car by a group of men, in broad daylight.
His remains were found in a cemented drum in Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 16.
Kevin's murder was reportedly related to a RM700,000 corruption case that he had handled as DPP.
Six people have been charged with his murder and two others with abetment. -Mkini
