Nazir Razak: Tough to promote M'sia with 1MDB affair

CIMB chairperson Nazir Razak today lamented that it was tough trying to promote Malaysia amid the 1MDB scandal and related issues afflicting the country.
"I have been promoting Malaysia for a long time and it has never been tougher than now due to 1MDB and related issues," he said in a posting on Instagram this afternoon.
Nazir said this ahead of his talk on Monday at the annual CIMB London Investor Conference where he will speak on Asean politics and economics.
He also uploaded a 1992 photograph of himself taken in London when he was there for his first investor roadshow.
Nazir has long been critical of 1MDB which is the brainchild of his brother, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
1MDB is struggling to repay its US$11 billion of debt amid claims of misappropriation.
There has been speculation of rift between Najib and his siblings after they publicly rebuked the prime minister's claim that his wealth was an inheritance from his father, Abdul Razak, who was the nation's second prime minister.
"We wish to put on record that Abdul Razak was a highly-principled man, well known to all who knew him for his frugality and utmost integrity and any statement or inference to the contrary would be totally false and misleading to his memory and to his service and sacrifices for the nation," Nazir and his brothers had said in February.
However, Nazir in April downplayed the rift, stating that disagreements between brothers were 'normal'. -Mkini
