The blanket gag on Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua from commenting on 1MDB still stands, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief Hasan Arifin said today.
This includes debating about 1MDB in Parliament, he said.
"As Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said, it is difficult to differentiate between the chilli from the spice or the sweet and the sugar," Hasan told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
He added he will advise the PAC and Pandikar if Pua makes any remark about 1MDB.
"The speaker has the authority to decide (on what action to take)," Hasan said.
Yesterday, Pandikar told Pua during the sitting that he could talk on 1MDB if he did not touch on the PAC's 1MDB probe.
"You can make statements if it doesn't use PAC information. But my problem is I can't distinguish between what you say outside and your role in the PAC," the speaker said.
However, Pandikar insisted Pua was free to debate in the House.
The opposition, meanwhile, has taken Pandikar's remarks to mean that Pua is free to comment on 1MDB as long as he does not touch on the PAC probe.
Hasan on Tuesday first said that Pua could no longer speak on 1MDB after Pandikar ruled that Pua must either quit the PAC or withdraw from PAC's 1MDB investigations if he wanted to debate 1MDB boss Arul Kanda Kandasamy. -Mkini
