No GE14, if NSC Act enforced, says Matthias Chang

The government was already laying the groundwork needed to get public support for the National Security Council Bill.

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council (NSC) Bill is a method, a reverse coup d’etat, and if passed, there may be no General Election in 2018.
This was the claim made by senior lawyer Matthias Chang who ventured at a forum on the NSC Bill on Friday that the proposed legislation was the Najib Abdul Razak-led government’s way of a “reverse coup d’etat” which will ensure it remains in power.
“Normally a coup d’etat refers to a military seizing power but a reverse coup d’etat was when the government takes all the power for themselves,” he said. “It (the government) knows that 80 per cent of the key people in key institutions are against them.”
“So, to prevent those people who have authority from exercising power (against the government), they cannot be allowed to take any action that will be a threat to the power structure.”
The “people”, clarified Chang, are the police and military who under the Bill, will no longer answer to the Council of Rulers, but to the Prime Minister instead.
Despite being a strong opponent of the proposed legislation, Chang theorized that no matter what, it will be enacted as the government has already laid out the groundwork to win public opinion. This, he cautioned, will be done through a “false flag operation”.
“All these objections will mean nothing if tomorrow a huge explosion takes place right in Kuala Lumpur. A man-made assassination.”
National Human Rights Society President, Ambiga Sreenevasan one of the speakers at the forum, agreed with Chang. She added that it would not be a surprise if once the NSC Bill was enacted, the 2018 General Election was postponed indefinitely.
“He can declare emergency whenever he wants,” said Ambiga. “He can use that as an excuse to stop the next GE from taking place.”
“It’s his way of remaining in power,” she told reporters on the sidelines of the forum.
