Najib not involved in Altantuya murder, says Sirul

Former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar has sworn in God’s name that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was neither involved nor linked to the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006.
“I understand that it is the intention of certain quarters with vested interests to topple a certain someone. (But) I was never taught to slander a person.
“It is a big sin if I were to slander a person and I state here... In God’s name... the most honourable Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was never involved and had no links to the case,” he said in the brief footage.
While he did not specifically mention what is “the case” that he said Najib had nothing to do with, in the context of his earlier videos, it seems to be a reference to the murder of Altantuya.
The 55-second long video is the third video purportedly of Sirul, that Malaysiakini had sighted via an anonymous source.
This is the first time that Sirul actually named anyone in the series of videos which had turned up.
Previously, in his first video he only mentioned that unnamed parties with vested interests were attempting to use him to slander “a certain someone”, which can be seen to be reference to Najib.
This followed a statement by his lawyers in Malaysia warning of the same thing. Several opposition figures who had previously met with Sirul and was mediating between him and the media had denied that they were the unnamed parties.
In the second video, Sirul revealed that “that woman” was not pregnant, an obvious reference to Altantuya, whose murder he and his former police partner Azilah Hadri was convicted of and sentenced to death for, when their earlier acquittal was overturned by the Federal court.
Azilah is now on death row while Sirul is being held in the Villawood immigration detention centre in Sydney after he was arrested by Australian authorities for an immigration offence, soon after he fled to the country just before the Federal Court decision.
Sirul’s exoneration of the PM came soon after attorney-general Mohamad Apandi Ali cleared Najib from culpability in the case of the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ into his personal accounts
Najib’s name was brought up in connection to the case but he was cleared from any complicity in the murder by the authorities and continues to vehemently deny any culpability.
