Aulong state rep withdraws suits against Perak speaker

Aulong state assemblyperson Leow Thye Yih today withdrew his suit filed against Perak state legislative assembly speaker SK Devamany and the Perak state government.
The withdrawal of the suit filed on April 29 was made before Ipoh High Court senior assistant registrar Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus.
Counsel Leong Cheok Keng, who is also Malim Nawar state assemblyperson, when met by reporters, said the decision was made after studying a report of the Perak state assembly rights and freedom committee.
"He (Leow) had been advised that the case would become academic. The subject matter is being paid in May and April. The committee report clearly stated that deduction must be in April and no other months.“Furthermore, we feel safe as Leow's salary was not deducted in May. As such, subject matter became academic and we applied to withdraw the case with the privilege to file again without the need for any order or cost," he said.

Leow in filing the suit through Messrs Leong & Tan, among others, sought for a declaration that his salary suspension including allowance and claims from April 1 to 30 was not according to the provision of the Perak state constitution.
He also applied for a declaration that he was entitled to retirement and other allowances and/or benefits provided to him under Article XXXVID of the state constitution.
Leow also demanded cost and other relief deemed fit and suitable by the court.
On April 7, Devamany announced the suspension of Leow under the Assembly Standing Orders after Leow had allegedly made malicious accusations against a state assemblyperson in the previous sitting.
