KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak today reiterated that the actions taken by the United States Department of Justice showed that 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) was not directly involved in the department's civil complaint.
In a Facebook posting today, Najib repeated his stance on the issue and said that neither himself, the Malaysian government nor the strategic development company were directly implicated in the civil complaint.
“I would like to state that what has been done by DOJ recently did not involve me or the government of Malaysia or 1MDB directly,” he said in a quote taken from an interview with Metro TV Indonesia.
Najib also provided a link to the full-length version of the interview which was aired on August 6. In the interview, he said those who were dissatisfied with his leadership, including the opposition parties, had politicised the 1MDB issue and as such, the company’s business problems became a political issue.
Najib also said the government had taken several measures to address its weaknesses including replacing the chief executive and conducting an internal investigation through the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
