YOURSAY | 'Loyalty to country is more important than to any political leader.'
Aquinas Says: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, you have made your stand as clear as daylight. You have drawn the line in the sand regarding which side you are on.
History will record what you said in your speech. Obviously, you must have deliberated over your speech many times before you gave it, because you must surely know the repercussions of what you said.
No longer will you be able to hold the high ground when this individual is directly implicated and his hold on power wanes.
I don't believe that a highly educated person such as yourself would think that this person is not guilty, based on, if nothing else, the US Department of Justice's revelations.
You now stand alongside the few other Umno leaders who are willing to shield a manipulative and menacing leader for their own selfish political ambitions.
Puzzling: "We will become the minions and the lackeys, but never mind. Why? To stand together with our president and uphold truth and justice,” said Khairy.
I understand the meaning of "blind loyalty". Essentially, it may mean these people are "mentally" blind. Anyway, let the public (not Umno members) and the world at large, judge whether "truth and justice" have been upheld.
However, I thought Khairy, being an Oxford graduate, would be more intellectually honest, but he is just another politician. At one time, I had high hopes that he could be our future prime minister. I am not so sure now.
Anonymous #70881335: Khairy is a real disappointment. Loyalty to country and rakyat is more important than to any political leader.
Anonymous 1890491455255851: You know Khairy, when you make such remarks, do you actually believe your words or have you lost all integrity and conscience?
The investigations of the US Department of Justice were extremely detailed and specific. You should care about being ridiculed, when it is the people who have lost all respect for its leader and the party.
360: Khairy, you were once a bright star of hope for all of us young Malaysians. Unfortunately and sadly, you have turned yourself into a lump of Umno coal - morally and ethically bankrupt.
TheObserver: Of course, he sees and knows, and can tell right from wrong. That isn't the point. When you're in a position of perhaps becoming the future prime minister, why throw that away? Khairy is mastering the art of war.
Maxit: From the way you speak about the current situation, you show you have no wisdom in spite of having studied at a prestigious university.
You are unable to discern right from wrong; you cannot read the signs that Umno and BN are finished.
If you don't save yourself now, you will never ever be going to make it in your political career.
When the new government comes in, all the misdeeds of Umno and BN will be exposed. It will be too late for you then. Don't back or bet on a losing horse.
Oxymoronictendencies: "Innocent until proven guilty" is a fundamental basis of the Malaysian judicial system.
However, following Khairy's logic, when a criminal commits a crime, you should support his claims of innocence, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Perhaps Khairy would like us to just ignore the evidence and sweep it under the carpet. This is called a "cover up". A cover-up seeks to protect a potentially guilty person from being prosecuted.
Roger 5201: A God-fearing Umno will defend the rights of an honest, principled and upright leader anytime, without needing to be told.
Anonymous_1404731812: I think this is not a very clever statement coming from a man who had graduated from a top UK university.
How on earth can we find someone guilty or innocent when he has done all he can to avoid being judged?
By doing all he has done to avert further scrutiny, he gives the impression he has something to hide.
Falcon: Truly embarrassing, but not surprising. We are in a national contest where individuals are competing with one another to see who can make the most bizarre and truly unintelligent statement that goes against ethics, good governance, accountability and universal political convention.
Just a Malaysian: As a youth leader representing the future of young Malays, this speech is pathetic. It shows how far and how much Umno has rotted.
Amateur: I think former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s comments that Umno is an old car beyond repair, is appropriate.
An old car needs new spare parts for maintenance. But if the spare parts are just as lousy or worse, logically you have to abandon it.
Sound Mind: The meaning of being loyal to your leaders, loyal to the people and loyal to the country, have been changed by some so-called 'leaders.'Some of these leaders may even have 'paper' qualifications from prestigious universities. It is sad to say the good name of these universities are being ruined by some of their graduates.
Tikusmati: What is there to defend? Corruption? Incompetence?
Existential Turd: "Defend and be loyal to your leader, no matter what", that is gangster logic through and through. This only happens with organised crime syndicates or despotic regimes.- Mkini
