Philippines AirAsia says no discrimination by sexual orientation, gender for any vacancy in budget airline.

PETALING JAYA: Philippines AirAsia (PAA) yesterday announced it was opening up vacancies across the company to transgender applicants as well, BusinessWorld Online reported.

The move by PAA, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd, is to help promote gender equality in the workplace.

“AirAsia values diversity in the workplace, and we are thrilled to offer equal employment opportunities to everyone irrespective of their gender identity and sexual orientation,” PAA Chairperson Marianne B Hontiveros said in a statement released yesterday.

The low-cost carrier is currently looking to fill vacancies in sales, marketing, engineering and ground operations positions, the Philippine-based business news portal said.

PAA CEO Dexter M Comendador said the move was in line with their intention “to tap into a diverse pool of talented, skilled and creative individuals to be part of our Allstars team”.

“The success of AirAsia is largely driven and inspired by people who dare to make a difference,” Comendador said in the statement.

At present, PAA has more than one thousand employees, with 40 per cent being women.

PAA is run under a joint venture company set up together by AirAsia Bhd and a few Filipino investors, namely Antonio O Cojuango, Alfredo M Yao, Michael L Romero and Hontiveros.

The airline operates domestic and international flights out of Manila, Cebu and Kalibo (gateway to Boracay).
