Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun considers his police report alleging a high-level conspiracy against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be a success.
Though the police decided against launching an investigation, Khairul said he is“proud” the report managed to foil an “attempt” to topple the prime minister.
Pressed by reporters, the Umno Youth leader refused to elaborate on the alleged plot.
The situation at the press conference was tense as Khairul, when bombarded with questions, repeatedly answered, “Refer to the police report.”
Khairul also claimed that he lodged the report based on his “confidence (of the allegation) and my belief”.
Yesterday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the Umno Youth leader had lodged a report based on “assumptions” and therefore it did not warrant an investigation.
In his report, Khairul had named former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, ex-attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed.
He accused the trio of submitting classified information to foreign agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), without authorisation.
He also alleged that the information was falsified to achieve a certain agenda.
However, Khairul's boss Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin distanced the wing from the report, insisting it had nothing to do with Umno Youth.
Asked aboutt his, Khairul merely replied: "You can ask him (Khairy)."
Najib had similarly echoed Khairy's statement, stating that Khairul's report was done in his personal capacity.
Pressed on whether the police report was really done in his personal capacity or on behalf on Umno Youth, Khairul did not give a direct answer.
"It is stated Khairul Azwan Harun in the police report," he said.
Khairul also said he did not care about being called names as long as he could stand by Najib and defended the prime minister.
Asked what he thought about being described as Najib's macai (lackey), he replied: "Whatever you want to say, up to you".- Mkini
