PETALING JAYA: PKR will not lend credence to the sex video controversy by calling in party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for questioning over the issue, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).
"We are not interested in questioning or discussing the content. This is also been the decision of the disciplinary bureau," said the PKR president.
He also said that the issue of Azmin's attendance in meetings is a separate issue.
"I don't think it's fair at this juncture to question him during this difficult time," Anwar said to reporters after chairing the party's central committee meeting at its headquarters here on Sunday (June 23).
He was responding to Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz's challenge to Azmin to take legal action against him if the Economic Affairs Minister was confident of his own innocence.
In an exclusive interview with Haziq, The Star reported that the Santubong PKR Youth chief, who caused an uproar when he confessed he was the man in the sex video with a man he claimed to be Azmin, challenged Azmin to lodge a police report against him.
Asked to comment if Azmin should take legal action against Haziq, Anwar said: "That is purely a decision by Azmin and his counsel to make. I don't not think it is proper for me to intervene."
Asked to comment on Yahaya Ismail, who is the author of the book Why Anwar Should Not Be PM, the PKR president merely said "nobody takes Yahaya seriously" and described him as a "mercenary writer".
In the book, Yahaya named Azmin as the best candidate for the next prime minister,
"I don't believe his book is considered as mainstream, intellectual, academic or (will get) book reviews. It does not warrant a response," said Anwar.
Anwar added that he would leave it to the police to investigate Yahaya's alleged threat to publish the book if not paid RM400,000.
However, Yahaya has since denied that he blackmailed the PKR president.
He said his offer to Anwar to buy the copyright to his book was a norm in the book-publishing business.- Star
