PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's office has dismissed the allegation that a party state chief assaulted a researcher, resulting in the latter suffering serious injuries.
Anwar's press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the complainant was a part-time researcher who purportedly had discipline problems, including drug abuse.
According to him, the researcher has since been terminated due to these issues.
Tunku Nashrul was responding to a Malaysian Gazette report which said the PKR state chief is being investigated over the incident.
The news report said the state chief and the researcher were embroiled in an argument before it turned violent.
“The victim is said to have suffered fractures, apart from other injuries.
“The victim then lodged a police report on May 26, at the Petaling Jaya police station and submitted a medical report from a private hospital,” it read.
However, Tunku Nashrul said witnesses, who were present at the office, revealed that the researcher had prior injuries and not as a result of the alleged incident.
“Witnesses also said the individual entered the premises (Anwar's office in Jalan Gasing) without permission on the day of the incident.
“There were no untoward incidents which took place as claimed by the individual,” he added in a statement today.
Tunku Nashrul also said that Anwar's office had filed a police report against the individual.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Gazette quoted Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat confirming a report was lodged by the researcher.
He said the case is being investigated Section 323 of the Penal Code, which relates to voluntarily causing hurt. - Mkini
