Dear Dr Mahathir : 1. But it was YOUR government which requested Sirul's extradition from Australia 2. Will you be bringing in anymore extremists/radicals who claim poor treatment by India?

Malaysia is still suffering a bad name all over the world. From the Najib kleptocracy,  to being a terrorist support base, to human trafficking,  mass graves in Perlis, enforced disappearances of people, race baiting etc.
Indeed the country has much to clean up to make ourselves presentable to the world again.

But that does not seem to be happening as quickly.

The economy is bad, the stock market has tanked and confidence is weakening.

Dr Mahathir's latest defence of Zakir Naik is bewildering and does not help fix Malaysia's image at all.

And certainly the issue has made headlines in the Indian Press (click here)

The Indian press has picked up what Dr Mahathir said :

"Zakir in general feels that he is not going to get a fair trial (in India) Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying."

"He compared the situation to Australia refusing to extradite former Police commando Sirul Azhar Umar who was sentenced to death in Malaysia in 2015 for killing a Mongolian model."

Dr Mahathir has just single handedly passed judgement on India's justice system.
Dr Mahathir says the Indian legal justice system is unfair.
And Dr Mahathir has come to this conclusion by listening to a person who is a fugitive from the Indian justice system.
I say, isnt that a serious conflict of interest?

What is interesting are the readers' comments in that Indian news report.
Here are some of them :

1. Keep him for good. We dont need trash. If Malaysia needs some more trash we could send Mehbooba Mufti, Sehla Rashid and Barkha Dutt, if Zakir Naik needs company.

2.  Indians should avoid Malaysia for tourism. And decrease trade with them. Keeping one who breeds hate will affect other religions in their country and in longer run will impact Malaysia and their citizens.
Well that is a thought.   There are other radicals and extremists in India. Zakir is not the only one.  And they will all certainly say they will not get a fair trial in India. So why not extend PR to more Indian extremists? The more the merrier.

And here is a retort to Dr Mahathir from our own MP for Bukit Gelugor Ramkarpal Singh:

Ramkarpal said Dr Mahathir likening Zakir to Sirul  is "misconceived".

Sirul convicted by court for murder
Zakir yet to stand trial
Sirul faces death sentence

My comments :

Dr Mahathir is actually giving another  of his "in your face" type replies that he is doing a good thing by denying the Zakir Naik extradition request from India. Just like Australia denied Sirul's extradition to Malaysia.

But Sir, it is your government that asked for Sirul's extradition from Australia.
Sudah lupa ke?

If Australia denying Siruls extradition is a good thing then why did your government ask for his extradition in the first place? You are actually saying that you did a bad thing.

And if you say that the Aussie denial of Siruls extradition to Malaysia is a bad thing then how does your refusal to extradite Zakir to India become a good thing?

This is just a simple follow through from what you have said.
This is also first class cakap tak serupa bikin.

Also bear in mind that the Indians wish to question Zakir Naik. They have not charged him yet. This is just the investigation phase. Just like we want to question Jho Low first. And the investigation into Zakir Naik has to do with money laundering.

The former PM Najib Razak is being charged in our Malaysian court for the same offence (among others) ie money laundering.

Why do you wish to obstruct the Indians from carrying out their investigations into money laundering offences by one of their own citizens? There are 1.3 BILLION more Indians. Are you going to protect all of them from the "unfair Indian justice system"?

Malaysia has long ago signed an extradition treaty with India. Here is another comment I picked up:

Malaysia and India have signed an extradition treaty; therefore, Malaysia cannot ignore the treaty and expect India to still respect us.

Rule of law is supposed to prevail in Malaysia after the last general election, but if we continue to protect a fugitive, we will again become a laughing stock to the world.

Stephen Ng

You have made a complete U turn on the Pakatan Manifesto.
Now you have made another U turn - on an international treaty signed with another country.
And you expect the world to show us respect?
That is not how the world works.

You should just be more forthcoming. Tell the truth.
The Muslim majority in Malaysia  is stricken by Zakir Naik.
You need their votes. So Zakir Naik stays.
Simple as that.

That Thai woman was extradited back to Thailand because she is not a Muslim.
The Muslim majority does not care about some Thai kafir woman.
So she was deported.

Just say it like it is.
