LANGKAWI (Bernama): Visitors to Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi, which is known as the largest crocodile farm in the country, can now try out its new attraction, crocodile "fishing".
Animal lovers, however, can rest assured as the activity does not harm the 60-odd young crocodiles of the Crocodylus porosus species, which are the stars of this activity.
Crocodile fishing merely refers to the act of using a makeshift fishing rod, comprising a piece of wood with rope attached, to feed the creatures bait comprising chicken meat, explained the farm's sales manager Siti Raudhah Shaari.
She added that the feeding process did not harm the young crocodiles as the chicken meat was attached to the rope and not to a fish hook.

Recent renovations had been undertaken to install mini bridges over the pond housing the two to three year-old creatures, to enable visitors to get closer while feeding them, she told Bernama here Thursday (June 13), adding that the renovated pond was opened to visitors late last month.

There are three ponds, including the young crocodile pond, at the farm, which had been renovated and landscaped in accordance with standard operating procedures set by the Wildlife and National Parks Department, and these include the incorporation of safety features for both visitors and reptiles. - Bernama
