Flood hits Melaka causing traffic chaos following heavy rain

MELAKA: Heavy rain and flash floods are causing traffic chaos in various parts of Melaka.

The downpour which began at 6.30am on Wednesday (June 26) caused water to rise in low-lying areas in  Melaka Baru Jalan Pegaga,Taman Merdeka, Jalan Tembusu, Lorong Pandan,  Malim Jaya, Bertam Perdana, Malim Permai, Kg Limbongan and Bukit Katil.

Melaka is still experiencing heavy rain as of 8.50am, causing those heading to work to be stuck in severe traffic bottlenecks throughout the city.

MP for Kota Melaka Khoo Poay Tiong said the state Defence Force was on full alert and would evacuate victims if the situation worsen.

Khoo had to cancel his events after getting distress calls from affected residents.- Star
